This was the teaser poster released months before the actucal theartical trailer and poster was established. I decided to analse this due to the fact that the brief that i decided to do was to create a teaser trailer, hence my reason to analyse a "teaser poster" as i can then acknowledge the codes, conventions and ideologies that it uses to make it a successful product.
As the analysis of this poster is optional it will be rather shot, due to it not containing much, in order to not give the story away.
A teaser trailer is an early promotional film poster, containing basic images without relieving much of the story, leaving the viewer with a very basic understanding of the story, such as the theme/genre etc. The use of teaser trailers and posters are to attract customers, although most of the filming and shooting is done long before the real production, as a result normally not looking the same
My first initial thoughts when looking at the poster is the tool that is being held up, which i assume to me the murder weapon. There seems to be multiple ends within the weapon emphasising the idea of multiple murders. Plus the weapon seems to have blood splatted on it, which also leads to the idea, that the act of murder has already been committed. Interestingly we are not able to see the character who is holding it, although it is most likely to be the antagonist, due to us not being able to see he/she, this makes the viewer want to know why they are holding it? who they have killed? etc
The imaging is also another key part of the poster. I have realised that the poster does not state the name of the film,
the writing seems to get bigger and bolder as it goes down. the Theta Pie, obviously seems to be a part of the greek system within american colleges. And the word MUST, tells the viewer that what ever they are saying is not a suggestion, but instead a statement, or something that is going to happen. DIE is capitalized and bolded highlighting the theme of death, plus it adds a dramatic impact.
The background, seems to be red and cloudy, with adds a mysterious effect to the shot adding some confusion.
in conclusion, overall the teaser trailer does have a really good effect on the viewer. An effect without giving the story away, the codes, conventions and ideologies they use are really effective in terms of communicating with the audience.
